Ingredients

- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup butter (softened)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
- Red or pink food coloring (optional)
- Buttercream frosting
- Sprinkles or candy toppings
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and line muffin tin with Valentine cupcake liners.
- In a bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla.
- Mix in dry ingredients, alternating with milk until smooth.
- Add food coloring if desired, then fill cupcake liners 2/3 full.
- Bake 16–18 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
- Frost with buttercream and decorate with your favorite Valentine toppings.
Notes
- For extra fun, fill the cupcakes with jam or chocolate before baking. Try strawberry buttercream or classic cream cheese frosting!
