  9. ½ cup cocoa powder (for chocolate version)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13 inch sheet pan.
  • In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, cocoa powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
  • Add eggs and vanilla, beat until combined.
  • Alternate adding dry mix and buttermilk to the wet ingredients.
  • Pour batter into pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake 30–35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
  • Cool completely before frosting.
