  15. 1½ cups unsalted butter, room temp
  16. 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  17. 1/4 tsp salt
  18. 1 tsp vanilla extract
  19. 6 cups powdered sugar
  20. 34 tbsp whole milk

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease two 9-inch pans and line with parchment.
  • Whisk flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, mix milk, eggs, oil, and vanilla.
  • Combine wet and dry ingredients until smooth.
  • Whisk in boiling water or coffee carefully.
  • Divide into pans and bake for 35 minutes.
  • Cool in pans 15 minutes, then transfer to wire rack.
  • For frosting, beat butter 2 minutes until creamy.
  • Add cocoa and salt, mix on low.
  • Add sugar gradually, alternating with milk.
  • Mix in vanilla; beat until light and fluffy.
  • Frost cooled cake layers and decorate as desired.
