- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

- 1½ tsp baking soda

- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water or hot coffee
- For the Chocolate Buttercream:
- 1½ cups unsalted butter, room temp
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 6 cups powdered sugar
- 3–4 tbsp whole milk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease two 9-inch pans and line with parchment.
- Whisk flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix milk, eggs, oil, and vanilla.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients until smooth.
- Whisk in boiling water or coffee carefully.
- Divide into pans and bake for 35 minutes.
- Cool in pans 15 minutes, then transfer to wire rack.
- For frosting, beat butter 2 minutes until creamy.
- Add cocoa and salt, mix on low.
- Add sugar gradually, alternating with milk.
- Mix in vanilla; beat until light and fluffy.
- Frost cooled cake layers and decorate as desired.

- Use boiling coffee for richer flavor.
- Cool completely before frosting for best texture.
- Wrap layers tightly if making ahead or freezing.
