- 10 cups day-old bread cubes (French, sourdough, or cornbread)
- 1 cup diced onion
- 1 cup diced celery
- 1/2 cup diced carrots
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups chicken or turkey broth (warm)
- 1 tbsp fresh sage, chopped
- 1 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped
- 1 tsp rosemary
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional add-ins: cooked sausage, dried cranberries, toasted pecans
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (or prepare slow cooker).
- Cube and dry bread overnight or toast in the oven.
- Sauté onions, celery, and carrots in butter for 8–10 minutes.
- Add garlic, sage, thyme, and rosemary. Stir to combine.
- Place bread cubes in a large bowl. Mix with sautéed vegetables.
- Gradually add warm broth while tossing to moisten.
- Add optional ingredients if desired.
- Transfer to buttered baking dish or slow cooker.
- Bake covered for 30 min, then uncover and bake 10–15 min.
- Or cook on LOW in crockpot for 3–4 hours, stirring once.
